Our fans have created some fantastic Windows Phone wallpapers over the years. Today we’re unveiling a new nature series from Windows Phone fan and London-based graphic designer Levi Freeman.
What’s unique about these is that they’re the first to carry our design team’s official seal of approval. We also hope they’re the first of many collaboration efforts with artists to come.
Visit Levi’s site to grab the entire set of eight for your lock...

Here are my favorite Windows Phone highlights of the week. What about you?
The Samsung Focus 2 arrives on Sunday
Heads up that the Samsung Focus 2 makes its AT&T debut this weekend. With a $50 price tag, solid spec sheet, and 4G LTE network support—not to mention classy looks—I’m betting Samsung has another Windows Phone winner on its hands. The critics agree. CNET’s Jessica Dolcourt reviewed the phone this week and...

SOFTWARE Windows Blogs
For the past few weeks I’ve been mentioning that you’ll soon need Windows Phone 7.5 installed on your phone to buy, download, or update apps from Marketplace. (This applies to both the phone and web storefronts, by the way.)
We’re now doing the final work needed to turn on this new requirement, so I thought it would be a good time for another friendly reminder. If you’re just tuning in, my earlier post has all the details on why we’re doing t...

If you’re like most people, when you share files via SkyDrive you typically do so directly via email. This is one reason we built the connected address book, bringing together your friends’ addresses across Facebook, Google, and LinkedIn. Another benefit: when you share photos via email, your friends get a beautiful email with thumbnail previews.
Back in December, we added another way to share. You can get a link to any file or folder on...

Dave Null is looking for a good free VPN (virtual private network) to ensure his privacy while using open Wi-Fi hotspots
Lots of us surf using unsecured Wi-Fi networks, and where I live in the US, Starbucks doesn't require a pass code and the Wi-Fi is up 24/7 regardless of whether the shop is open. Are there any good free VPNs for privacy in such a situation? I'm using Cocoon with Firefox, but I don't have the means to compare it with...
Listbox, Why Art Thou Blanking?

One of the biggest performance changes for developers using Silverlight in Mango (WP 7.5) is off-thread input for ListBox. In a nutshell this basically means that all any flick or pan a user makes on a ListBox is handled by a dedicated thread, the Direct Manipulation (DM) thread, instead of the UI thread. By connecting the DM thread to the Compositor thread (that’s the one that does all the drawing to the screen independent of the UI thread) we h...
